Rabbit / Hare shooting

Philip uses a range of methods in rabbit / hare control. First, there is a free and without obligation visit to a property to decide, in conjunction with the owner, what the best approach will be. The range of approaches he has includes evening or morning shooting with a shotgun and his gundog (if there is heavy cover and they need to be flushed out); rifle shooting in the evening or morning; night shooting, using a spotlight; night shooting using night-vision equipment; or a combination of all of the above. There is also humane trapping if appropriate. Philip does not use poison as it can end up polluting waterways, or being consumed by native birds, domestic animals, pets and so on.

Opossum shooting

Philip will first visit the property, on a without obligation basis to decide, in conjunction with the owner, what the best approach will be. Possums are nocturnal so he does night shooting using a spotlight or night shooting using night-vision equipment; or a combination of the two. There is also humane trapping if appropriate. Philip does not use poison as it can end up polluting waterways, or being consumed by native birds, domestic animals, pets and so on.

Goat control

Philip uses day-time shooting in goat control. First, there is a free and without obligation visit to a property to decide in conjunction with the owner what the best approach will be. The range of approaches he has includes daytime shooting with a shotgun and his gundog (if there is heavy cover and they need to be flushed out); or rifle shooting. Night shooting, using a spotlight; night shooting using night-vision equipment can be used but is unusual. Philip does not use poison as it can end up polluting waterways, or being consumed by native birds, domestic animals, pets and so on.

Pigs & Deer

Pigs and deer are usually nocturnal, unless completely undisturbed and they feel safe out in the open during the day. First, there is a free and without obligation visit to a property to decide in conjunction with the owner what the best approach will be. Pigs and deer can be difficult to control in an urban or lifestyle block situation. They are cunning and learn fast. Philip uses a combination of spotlight and night-vision gear for night shooting, plus evening and early morning hunts to deal with problem pigs and deer. He can also give advice on trapping (but does not install or operate pig / deer traps).

Magpies

Philip uses day-time, morning and evening shooting in magpie control, plus trapping. First, there is a free and without obligation visit to a property to decide in conjunction with the owner what the best approach will be. They are highly intelligent birds and learn very quickly. They are easiest to tackle in the Spring where they become more aggressive and territorial and are therefore more vulnerable to being shot. They are however, impossible to eradicate as they can simply fly away from a property – even their preferred spot and simply return at a later date when they deem it safe to do so. On-going shooting and trapping is the only way to keep them away. Philip does not use poison as it can end up polluting waterways, or being consumed by native birds, domestic animals, pets and so on.

Canadian Geese

Canadian geese are beautiful animals, but you can get too much of a good thing. They breed rapidly and successfully inhabit many different habitats. They can be highly aggressive and tear, including towards people, as the above golf I found out!. Phil has experience in controlling numbers of geese which goes back to 1982. He has specialist rifles that can be used with great affect out to a considerable distance, which is highly effective against case. They are an intelligent bird and shotgun shooting is not the most effective or humane way of dealing with them.

Call Phil now to discuss your issues with geese - Canadian or otherwise! A beautiful bird. But you can get too much of a good thing! They can be highly aggressive, as this found found out! In concentrated numbers they create a problem of fouling waterways and grass areas. Phil Mitchell
